Mushara Bush Camp review

We did our own trips here.

Very well run site and good not to have big group tour there.

Perfectly positioned for Etosha.

Mushara Bush Camp review

A bit too "new" after Andersson's Camp. It felt somewhat lacking in "atmosphere" though all the facilities were excellent.

Luxury Tented Camp

Lovely luxury camp with great food and a beautiful pool just outside the Eastern gate to Etosha National Park, I definitely recommend staying here if you're not staying within the park. The tents are spacious and the bathroom nice if not a little revealing as the there is no door to the shower and the toilet door didn't close properly!

A couple of things, there is no lock on the tent door so when you leave you will leave knowing that someone could easily enter without a key if they wish however there is a security guy that wanders around and a safe for valuables (that uses a key rather than a code). I recommend just taking important things with you in the car to be extra safe. At night when you're asleep you can lock it from the inside although the place seemed quiet and safe, it's more of a comfort thing. The front gate isn't manned so you do have to get in and out of your car to open and close it when arriving and departing, which apart from being very slightly inconvenient, makes the gate a bit pointless.

The hostess was friendly and on our last night a huge outdoor buffet was laid out for everyone in a really beautiful setting. There are two other Mushara camps that i am aware of including, Villa Mushara and Mushara Outpost, which i think provide a little more comfort and luxury but Mushara Bush Camp is luxurious without the same price tag and so well worth it for those looking to save a little extra. One last thing - the wifi didn't work for me but it did for my friend, it seems they have a few issues with it.

Expert Africa comments

We passed these comments onto the owner of Mushara, Marc Pampe, who takes any feedback very seriously. Marc explained that as the tents are made from cloth and canvas, a lock on the outside of the door is somewhat pointless, but that valuables are secure in the safe provided. Marc also explained that the unmanned front gate is not a security measure, but that it is there to keep the animals of the Mushara reserve where they should be - inside the reserve! We were sorry to hear that the WiFi at Mushara was not working well at the time these travellers stayed. Mushara upgraded their WiFi a few weeks after these travellers visited, and we are told it is now working much better.

The game drives were good from here.

Magnificent Mushara

Mushara Bush Camp is quite family orientated and there were a few children here during our stay but the luxury tents are spreadout and the atmosphere was pleasant.

The dining experience was restaurant quality with delicious food brilliantly presented under a giant thatched roof. Staff were attentive and mealtimes were a pleasure.

Mushara is very close to Etosha's Von Lindequist Gate and we spent our day in the park. We saw Damara Dik-Dik from our veranda and the camp feels very much in the wild

Great base for exploring Eastern Etosha

We really enjoyed our stay at Mushara. Our tent/chalet was a perfect size and very thoughtfully laid out. We had some of the best food of our trip here - it was tasty but also unusual and extremely well presented.

Throughout our stay the service was good without being obtrusive or at all pretentious - overall it was just a very easy relaxing place to stay. One day we had lunch here and were entertained by a group of warthogs grazing on the lawn just in front of us.

We took a morning drive into Etosha from here, and the guide was very good. Even if you are self-driving it is nice to sometimes go in a guided vehicle - for example during this drive he showed us a leopard that we would not have spotted had we been in our own car.

We recommend Mushara as a great base for exploring the Eastern side of Etosha, this was one of the favourite places that we stayed at during our trip in Namibia.

Mushara Bush Camp review

Of all the places we stayed, this was probably the least inspiring. The facilities were getting to be old, with taps handles that came off and visible rust. The staff seemed like they were trying, but needed more training.

On the other hand, the food was excellent. And we really needed a place to sleep in that location after a long day driving in Etosha.

There were also some great birds in the garden.

Expert Africa comments

Marc Pampe, the owner of Mushara Bush Camp, always takes feedback very seriously and responded with the following comments:
The Mushara Bush Camp was build in 2009 and I can say from my side that our maintenance and upkeep of infrastructure is of a very high standard. We are continuously busy with upkeep and maintenance. We are sorry that the handle of the tap came loose in these guests tent - unfortunately these things do sometimes happen and we get them fixed as soon as possible. The visible rust was done on purpose - to give our door handles and other metal works a different look, we let them rust and then they get a clear layer of varnish - we are in an environment where no metal will rust of natural cause - it is to dry where we are situated - the rust is not a cause of lack of maintenance, but rather a way to create a certain look.
