Total luxury at Mchenja

Mchenja was beautifully equipped, the lodges catered for your every need, very comfortable. Location was idylic overlooking the Luangwa river. The comical sounds of the hippos keeping you company was brilliant.

Every walk and night drive produced new game and bird sightings, plus lots of knowledge of tracking and habitat passed on by our fantastic guide Lawrence. If we were to choose our favourite guide (which is difficult) it would be Lawrence. Lawrence was very informative whatever we saw, and exceptionally easy to get on with. Our hostess, Mindy, again was our favourite, nothing was too much trouble, very easy to talk to, very relaxing atmosphere.

The leopard kill was exciting, from watching her crawling along a ditch to approach the impala, picking out a rather large male, to making the kill was unbelievable.

Mchenja Bushcamp review

Simply the best we could expect under every aspect. Very professional and human at the same time.

Elisabetta got her birthday gluten-free cake with a singing choir in the middle of the savana: simply amazing!

Walking safari very interesting and not to be missed if one wants to really understand the bush.

Mchenja Bushcamp review

Well for me this was about as close as you can get to paradise on earth. Lovely tents with nice outside area for shower and loo - although a bit scary in the middle of the night! Richard and Susie were excellent hosts - really do their job well. Our guide was Lawrence (from Kapani) and was excellent as well.

We are into birds and cats and Lawrence could imitate most bird sounds and quite often would have 'conversations' with them as we went along. Food was outstanding given the remoteness of the camp.

It was very fitting that the last animal we saw just before we got back to camp at night was a leopard stalking an impala. It rounded off a beautiful experience.

All of the staff at this lodge were great - helpful and friendly. Excellent leopard and lion sightings, as well as all other expected wildlife. Guides were very knowledgeable and respectful for the welfare of the wildlife.

Meals were excellent.

I would love to visit this lodge again.

just possibly the lovliest setting, but close

Monica and Abel looked after me very well, and watching the leopard walking the sand bank is an abiding memory of this camp. All the camps had their own charm, but the setting for this one with the large trees and flowing water is lovely.

A great memory has to be the leopard up a tree, and getting bogged down near lions - I was amazed how little interest they took in all the activity so near to them.

Mchenja Bushcamp review

This was probably the best camp we visited, Richard & Susie the hosts were most welcoming and took care of our every need.

The location - Stunning and accomodation 1st Class. Again the guides were top class, a camp to visit again I think.

Back to the River for Mchenja Camp

Amazing can be the only word for the changes in environment witnessed throughout the initial three camps. Located on the banks of the river in a small Ebony grove are the beautiful lodges of Mchenja. Our ever extending list of wildlife only got fuller at this camp. Leopard walking through camp was one of the highlights.

A knowledgeable safari guide (Innocent) made our stay here all the more enjoyable. Each days expectations got bigger due to each being met and exceeded.

The food and service as per usual was spectacular, we couldn't ask for more, other than when is the Norman Carr cookbook being released?

Mchenja Camp - a South Luangwa must

Like the other Norman Carr bushcamps, it would be hard to beat this for comfort and location and dedicated, hard-working and knowledgeable staff.

It's not far from Kaingo (a Shenton camp, also excellent) but we didn't feel that it was a mistake to spend time at both. If you're interested in birds, how could you resist a camp with a resident little banded goshawk? Amongst many other memorable moments, we stood in the camp and watched a lion, just across the river, jump on a hippo which then managed to escape its clutches.

Suzie and Rich deserve special mention as the best of hosts. Guding and scouting here were also as first rate as you could possibly wish.
