"Doro Nawas review"

2 nights Arrived 4 Nov 2008
"Very friendly staff - the manager, Jo, tried very hard to please.

The accommodation was very high standard and the thought of sleeping under the stars seemed a good idea until we were told they were expecting the temperature to drop to 9 degs that night!

The trip to track the desert elephants was exceptional - Gabriel our guide soon picked up fresh tracks from the early morning and we followed these to discover a herd of elephants in the hills. The highlight being the sighting of a 2 day old baby. We sat very close to the herd for well over an hour.

We also did the trip to Twyfelfontein, again with Gabriel as our guide, this was combined with a nature drive and a beautiful sunset with a sundowner." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia

"We were looking forward to our stay in Doro Nawas and we were not disappointed. The chalets are very spacious and well appointed, the main area is relaxed and friendly with superb views over the desert. We sat on the veranda looking out for some elephants! On our first afternoon we relaxed by the pool, which is very secluded.

Our guide took us to the elephants, which were a long way from the camp. Although our guide was determined to find the elephants she did not seem to have the all around passion for Namibia that we found in the previous guides. We paid quite a lot for the trip to the rock paintings but being taken there was relaxing and we finished the day with a sun-downer and some interesting conversations in a beautiful spot.

Sleep outside, it feels very special with so many stars and shooting stars and the cool pure air of the desert! The food was good and the young girls in the restaurant were charming ." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia

"This was a good place to stay but could have been signposted better once leaving the main road as it is quite a way up. It was good to see the desert elephants.

There are a lot of steps to reach reception & the restaurant." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

2 nights Arrived 24 Oct 2008
"Huge room with large shaded deck with private outside shower as well as good normal inside facilities. Food, buffet style, good and plentiful. Good, long narrow pool. Staff cheerful and friendly - they sang to us at dinner.

Our guide, Elaine, for the Desert Elephant excursion was very knowledgeable although, at N$550, we thought it was expensive. The morning excursion to Twyfelfontein, Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain and Petrified Forest (at N$960) is outrageously priced and easy to do yourself - which we did at a minute fraction of the cost.

Best to see Burnt Mountain early or towards sunset. Check your extras bill!" See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia; 9n in Botswana

"Doro a delight"

2 nights Arrived 27 Sep 2008
"Directions near camp not overly clear but camp is in a really good location. Staff are warm and very friendly and made the stay a delight. Lots to do and the trip to see elephants was a highlight; very good guide who was infromative, knowledgeable and warm.

Management were clearly keen for you to enjoy the stay and spent time with guests around mealtimes. We travelled to Doro Nawas from Swakopmund and the roads in-land are poor and the journey took most of the day." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"After a long and dusty drive the outside appearance of the building was disconcerting. The cold towel and the welcoming drinks quickly restored equilibrium and made us apprieciate the excellent camouflaging into the hillside.

Huge lavish room with beds that can be pulled onto the veranda - and this is a tent! Birds, desert elephants stargazing. Thanks to all our guides and friendly staff. Florencia, you are in the right job." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas review"

2 nights Arrived 16 Sep 2008
"Doro Nawas failed to deliver on the service we expected at a lodge of this nature. We weren't met at reception, and it took a while to attract someone's attention. At our first breakfast there was a large party of people and the serving staff struggled to cope. As a result, we had to continually ask for stuff. We weren't offered a cooked breakfast, but this was clearly available. Breakfast on the next morning was better organised, and we suspect this was because it was much quieter, as a lot of people had left.

Lunch was a buffet, and the food was of a decent standard, but expensive. Dinner was half served half buffet. Some of the dishes were very good, others were average. We ordered a bottle of red wine which was served chilled.

There are several trips you can do from this lodge, but we passed on the Twyfelfontein trip, as it was expensive for what it was, and you can do this trip so easily on your own for a fraction of the cost. We did do the elephant trip and saw elephants.

If this lodge is aiming at the luxury end of the market. they need to focus on those little details that make staying in a place like this a more seamless experience. It is a fabulous lodge, and the staff were friendly, so maybe we just caught them on a bad day." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Fantastic rooms like Kulala

The begging by the children at the turn off to Doro !Nowas was quite off putting. This is a very dead end existance for these kids and vistors should be encouraged to think about the practice of giving to these young boys. I did not find an oppurtunity or the right person to mention or discuss this with when there but it is a very important issue." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia
