"The best ever."
We were made extremely welcome - many people remembered us and asked after our daughter who was not with us this time. We felt like royalty! Kiki was his usual irrepressible self and all the staff were marvellous - nothing was too much trouble, attention to detail was remarkable and the food wonderful. The huts were spacious and clean and anything we asked for was done right away. Kanga was our guide and his guiding in many ways was similar to that of Simon's at Tena Tena. He was a friendly, help and extremely knowledgeable young man. We learned a lot from him.
The Robin Pope vehcles have improved and are easier to get into than they used to be and are more comfortable. We are not convinced of the advisability of the swimming pool being where it is, and there is now nowhere very suitable for sitting to watch animals at the lagoon, which is a pity." "Great beginning to the trip"
We've done safaris before and our transition into that style was not difficult, but I do appreciate the more complete facilities than what you find in a bush camp. Level of understanding of what guests want/need is very good and everyone tried to accomodate.
Guides were good and generally worked hard to accomodate. Food was imaginative and well presented." See all these reviews: 14n in Zambia
"Excellent game viewing at Nkwali"
We also liked the fact that we covered different areas on each game drive & used different methods of crossing the river. We will always remember the suprise bush brunch barbacue that was organised for after our last morning game drive, we thought we had said goodbye to the staff at camp 3 hours earlier.
We thought the location of the camp was stunning . Our chalet had an enormous bed & very comfortable armchairs on the veranda facing the river where it was great to just relax.
The only area for a little criticism would be the food. We would have liked more fruit & more salad vegetables at lunch time & would have preferred the evening meals to be ready plated.
We would certainly return to Nkwali." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia; 4n in Malawi
"Nkwali Camp"
Staff, food, service - all remain excellent, hence this being our third stay at Nkwali.
An added bonus was seeing a leopard every single evening game drive. Stunning!" See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia
"Excellent location by river"
The start of day with breakfast by camp fire followed by river crossing and foot safaris are a wonderful experience and they are led by friendly and engaging staff.
Food is excellent and we liked having meals with staff and unwinding after a good days gaem spotting and walking." See all these reviews: 17n in Zambia
"Nkwali review"
However, that part of the park does have other operators in it (we got totally spoiled later at Tena Tena and Nsefu)!" See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia
"Fantastic hospitality at Nkwali"
The food was great and note that there are English sockets in each room for charging etc." See all these reviews: 11n in Zambia
"Lovely Nkwali"
"Unbelievable Time at Nkwali"
"Our favourite place of the whole trip, Nkwali"
We were privileged to have Kanga as our guide for our whole stay. He is amazingly well informed, friendly, and good with children. He is part of a great team of Guides at Nkwali who make you feel safe yet "out there!" We felt that our stay focused on us and our needs: Our jeep drives were changed to suit our interests and the night drives which proved too scary for the 10 year old were cut out. This involved changing meal times for us which also was done without difficulty.
Melissa the camp manageress was fabulous, we felt well informed and looked after. She handled last minute flight changes without turning a hair!
Jo Pope has great taste and organisational skills and these are reflected in the decor, shop gifts, and meals -no-one has a repeat menu whilst with their safaris!
The abiding memory was the impressively strong role models that the Zambian guides provided and the sense of community within the camp, based on mutual trust. The need for trust cannot be overstated for visitors, completely out of their comfort zones. Robin Pope Safaris understand this and enable you to form good working relationships with their exceptional staff." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia; 6n in Mozambique; 1n in South Africa
